Sewage Water Can Be Toxic

Sewage damage is a category of water often called black water due to the level of contamination that is present. There are three types of water that can be found in a water damage disaster.

  • Category One: this category consists of clean water or water that does not contain any contaminants. This could be from a broken water line.
  • Category Two: this category consists of grey water or water that contains a significant amount of chemical, biological or physical contaminants. Grey water comes from waste lines, such as your washing machine.
  • Category Three: this category consists of black water or water that has come in contact with fecal matter and contains harmful bacteria and pathogens that cause disease. Floodwaters are also considered category three water.
